now is the winter of our discontent

this charming little rodent, er groundhog, is wiarton willie.
canada's answer to punxsutawny phil.
as if canada needed to answer THAT little pipsqueak and HIS weather predicitons.
well wiarton willie doesn't live too far from me really.
worth a day out up there to go and give him some of THIS (see photo below)
upside his head.*
he'll be seeing more than his shadow.

can you tell i'm sick of it all?
the snow?
every day.
and then my dear homeland, UK, gets a few flurries this week and the country shuts down.

i had bbc radio on at work the other day and we were listening to the reports of road closures and stoppages. no transport, no work for some people.
as the north american news reported, 'country grinds to a halt'.
and we were laughing out loud over here.
wimps, those brits.
i now direct you to my lovely niece sara's blog.
she lives in london with her boyfriend martin.
they have what i've heard is called a social life.
they are young and carefree, have jobs and cool friends and wear chic clothes.
they laugh and sing and party.
they are both good looking.
and believe it or not, they are both nice people.
makes you sick.
(youth is wasted on the young. somebody said that, not me. they were just jealous too.)
martin was in a band which was head hunted by liam gallagher.
liam was all like, 'mah-in we want your band to do a gig wif us man.'
and martin was like,
'sure, mate. that's cool.'
and it was.
they had a snow day this week because NOBODY could go to work.
and i loved what they did with it.

off to shovel.
snow plow blocked me in again.
arrrrgggghhhh

*no animals were harmed in the production of this post.

Oh, you poor snow covered woman.
You can't take it out on Willie, he has a brain the size of your pinkie.
I will try to send you some warm stuff from Florida....but it is chilly today..our coldest day yet.
I will go check out the beautiful people.
now, put on your scarf and get to work.

Clipstress, I like the idea of the rodent, if not the Whacker!

Beats the Wooden Dolly, (if not the pub!) x

Willy whacker?!?! That sort of thing is banned in this house.

We're buried here too. I feel your pain.

We always want what we don't have. What I would give for a good dumping of snow here in LA. Unfortunately, the best we can muster is a three day rain storm to break the monotony of 80 degree sunshine.

Whoever thought up the whole Wiarton Willie thing is a genius, because who would have thought the whole of Canada would be suckered into believing an oversized rodent could predict the weather forecast.......

It's Canada for goodness sakes, of course we are in for another 6 weeks of miserable cold and snowy weather, we don't need an oversized rodent telling us that!!!!!

Not a happy camper, Gill

I wasn't complaining about the snow! I was complaining that we had NO snow.

It's those southerners doing all the complaining - not us tough North Easterners!
