I'll take mine to go

still reeling.
it's been 3 days but the shock is lingering.
i thought that the pain would have subsided a little but this morning as i sipped my first cup of coffee,
wham!
it came back like a bolt from the blue.
just when you think that it's over.
there it is again.
it was saturday night.
in niagara falls.
it was the festival of lights, the opening ceremony.
it was a warm and balmy evening, the people were out in droves and everyone was happy.
and no event is complete without a cup of coffee to hang on to.
i'm sure you would agree.
so that's when we went into here.

not somewhere that i would usually fraternize as i like my coffee just - with coffee.
and some cream.
just to take the blackness away that's all.
no maple, mint, mocca, chocolate, frothy foam, latte, frappe or otherwise.
just the coffee please.
i ordered 2 cups.
one for me.
one for oldest son.
he asked for a venti vanilla latte.
i said, 'what size?'
see, what do i know?

i ordered the tall thing on the picture above the counter.
i was confused.
and a little intimidated.
the name escapes me now.
the taste lingers.
warm, insipid, sickly and when you get to the bottom,
yuck!

12 bucks!
yep.
12 bucks!

for two cups of stuff that doesn't even resemble coffee.
i felt like i'd been ravaged.
and not even kissed first.
i get the bucks part.
i don't get the star part.

i don't know when recovery will kick in.
i don't know which is worse.
that they charge that.
or that i just gave them my money and didn't say a word.
?
i forgot to check to see if there was a prize in the cup.
surely that was what all that money was for.
and
we just threw them away.
shafted!

Ha Ha. So funny. I agree with you and I have a post coming up about starbucks...and the people that frequent them!!!
I also like my coffee with coffee and surprisingly...My coffee maker makes it just fine!!

2 teas, a muffin and 2 crissants- $21. nevermind the parking! at least the show and fireworks were good and free!

I'm so with you on this one! I am a BIG fan of Dunkin Donuts (hazelnut, extra cream and Splenda!) The ONLY thing I ever get at Starbucks is the Pumpkin Spice Latte, although I have yet to give in to the desire this year, as I'm trying to be good to my waistline. Their "drinks" are all yummy, but EXPENSIVE!! The yum is not worth the $$. And, as far as their plain, old coffee, I hate it! Way too bitter for me. I'll stick to my cheapo DD, even when I make it at home.

I agree...not only is the price bitter, the coffee tastes bitter, too! But, I confess, I do like the way their Eggnog Latte makes me feel in the holiday mood...
My favorite coffee comes from a local, fair-trade importer and roaster named Grounds For Change. Their coffee is NOT bitter, and neither is the price, and they deliver!http://www.groundsforchange.com/

No wonder Dr Evil chose Starbucks as his base. How much for a latte to go...? One million pounds...! I can believe it.

Great post! And I totally agree. I just don't understand the popularity of a place that charges such outrageous prices for such lousy coffee.

I thought I'd try one of their decafs once, thinking that might taste better. It was the one and only time I have ever sent back a cup of coffee as undrinkable!!

woody: i know. they must have $ to burn!

suz: i will look forward to your post about *$.
geddit?
* = star
and
$ = bucks.
sorry :-)

kee: disgraceful. but you're right the show was free and the fireworks were good. :-)

Chi-Chi: i actually make my own coffee at home and take it in a thermos to work. How bloody radical is that? :-)

karen; i'm familiar with fair trade products but so far haven't tried the coffee. i will look out for it. don't think i'd have it delivered tho'. that sounds like something rich people would do.
:-)

steve: dr. evil must have been getting his lattes in N.Falls as well. it's a rip off. :-)

jacran: nice to meet you. i've just popped over to visit your blog.
:-)

We hate that place. The Evil Twin goes in and says, "I just want a regular coffee" and they act all offended. LOL.

I was once stood behind a woman in the queue who had a complete benny at the waiter when he gave her her order. She said "I specifically asked for no froth!" She was precious!

I love my "skinny venti vanilla latte" in the morning. It's my little luxury!

For some reason hubby gave me a gift card to Starbuck's last year for Christmas. #1 I never leave home looking like a hag & I look like a hag until I have my coffee. Needless to say, I've used it 3 times. After the 3rd time I went in to inquire as to why I always only got a 1/2 cup when I ordered a Grande. They carefully explained it to me as if I were 80 years old, LOL!

I'm with you on this, CM. Ridonkulous!! Whenever I go there I always order "the small." I refuse to use their silly Starbuck's language.

I don't know how people can afford to go into those sort of places every day for their morning cup of whatever!!

No one has answered regarding Tesco's yet. Maybe you want to post the question on your blog and maybe someone may answer you?

ET's wife: i know if you don't use the proper lingo they act so superior.

Pam: I couldn't even get my tongue around all that. I just about manage to say 'coffee' when i belly up there. too much pressure! :-)

snoots: what's with 1/2 a cup for a 'grande'? or is that how much it costs?

jhi: ridonkulous is the word. love it. silly starbucks language. 'strue.
;-)

Gill: as i said before I take my thermos of coffee to work with me. You'd be proud of me for sure.
I will look into the Tesco gift card thing, I remember trying it last year and couldn't get anywhere.

the STAR part clippy, means that only movie stars can 1.) afford it and b.) only stars can tolerate the sickingly sweetness of it to the last drop BECAUSE stars are the only ones who can afford the trainers to get them into shape because after all- they ARE stars.

but what do i know. my coffee comes from Sam's club.

Paying $12 for coffee seems reasonable..it would be fun to bring along time-travellers from the Great Depression or orphans from a Nike sweatshop.

I would love to meet the chappy who recently paid £90000 for a fungus at the 79th White Truffle Festival of Alba.
How kewl is that?
